What Is Reiki ? |

Reiki is a system of healing which has been practised for thousands of years in Japan. It was re-discovered in 1900 by a Dean of a University in Tokyo, Dr Mikao Usui. Reiki is a non-invasive therapy, which aims to bring balance to the body's energy centres. Those centres that we recognise as Chakras, spin in opposite directions to each other and can easily fall out of balance leaving the mind, body and spirit vulnerable. Sickness it is believed starts out in the Aura and manifests its way inwards. Reiki (Meaning-Universal Life Force Energy) in layman's terms is the energy that makes everything tick. Nobody can deny the existence of energy throughout out bodies and we are still working at sub-atomic levels to find out how we work. Most Religions around the world recognise some form of energy, whether it be Ki, Chi, Mana or Prana. Reiki does not belong to a religion, but embraces all who step into it's light. Once you have experienced Reiki you will begin to understand that it is more than just a therapy. Reiki itself is a Japanese word (pronounced 'ray-kee'), "rei", meaning "universal" and "ki", meaning "life force". Put simply, it is the juice that creates and makes everything tick. Through the practitioner the Reiki flows, as they create a channel between the source and the receiver. Reiki practitioners do not possess special powers and are not responsible for any healing that takes place. They are in fact attuned by Reiki Teachers. Anyone with the correct attitude and desire to learn can be attuned. Learning Reiki is a life changing experience as it not only benefits the practitioner having the energy pass through them but also opens doors to so many beautiful things. Reiki is a hands on, non-invasive, natural healing technique. It has had profound effects on many conditions, illness' and injuries throughout time. It is also a great stress reliever as most who have received Reiki will testify to feeling a deep sense of peace and many experience deep sleep and vivid dreams following a session. Reiki energy is the vital energy of the universe, which permeates all matter. There are no negative effects; it can only heal not harm! Reiki can be given to anything; humans, animals and plants, even your home and your future can receive it. I believe you get from a session what you give to it. Go to a session thinking "This isn't going to work" and guess what? It will work, but not to the degree that we really desire. My motto is 'Healing is believing'. There are many strange and weird things in this world that we take for granted and without really understanding them we believe that they work and for those of us not at that level of enlightenment we must trust and accept Reiki's mysterious healing powers. I believe 'positivity' and 'love' play a huge part in the whole dynamics of Reiki. A simple example of this is when you pass somebody on the street and they smile at you and say "good morning", you instantly feel better. It's their love of life and people that make them do it. Touch can be an unspoken form of communication that allows love to pass from one person to another. Research has shown that people who are rarely touched, especially when they are children are more likely to suffer social and mental disorders. When we receive Reiki we allow a complete stranger to invade our space and we place our total trust in them. A practitioner works to a very strict code of practice (as set out by the U.K.R.F.), not unlike a doctor, everything they do should be professional, confidential and geared to make you feel comfortable and at ease. Reiki is a complimentary therapy that works along side normal medical practice and enhances the body's natural healing ability.
